A big THANK YOU to Miss Karen Smith who has found lots of exciting things to do outside
Saying phonemes (sounds) correctly is a really important stage for child for when they begin to orally blend and segment words. Click on the video below to help say the sounds correctly
Wednesday 1st April 2020
Today I thought it would be a good idea to get our brains to think about numbers and do some counting. Below is a maths activity that you can adapt to do inside or in the garden.
Thursday 2nd April 2020
Friday 3rd April 2020
A very good morning to you all. I can't quite believe that it is Friday again. I hope that you are all looking forward to the weekend and maybe a little bit of sunshine will be on the horizon allowing us to at least get out in the garden.
Nursery Daily Challenge – Friday 3rd April 2020
Nursery rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for our language. Both rhyme and rhythm help children hear the sounds and syllables in words, which helps them learn to read! This is one of our core nursery rhymes so sing along with Incy Wincy Spider. Sing along to a few different of our core nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty, Wind a bobbin up and Hickory Dickory Dock.
Let's get creative!!
After all that singing and dancing why not make you're own Incy Wincy Spider. Over the weekend and coming weeks you could make lots of different Nursery Rhyme characters and make a mobile for your bedroom.
Have a fun packed weekend and be safe from all the Nursery staff and don't forget to tweet your your amazing creations.
Home Learning Week 3 - Monday 6th April 2020
Good morning everyone I hope that your weekend was filled with joy and pleasure and you enjoyed the lovely sunshine. I hope you are all well and safe.
This morning I went on twitter and was really impressed with the salt dough keep sake Jessie and her family had made. What a lovely idea go and have a look. Why not make your own salt dough keep sake and create a time capsule to remind us of these unusual times. Bury your time casual in the garden and become part of making history.
Instructions for salt dough
- In a large bowl mix salt and flour together.
- Gradually stir in water. Mix well until it forms a doughy consistency.
- Turn the dough onto the bench and knead with your hands until smooth and combined.
- Make your creations using the salt dough.
- Place the salt dough creations into the oven at 180C. The amount of time needed to bake depends on the size and thickness of the salt dough creations.
Tuesday 7th April 2020
Good morning to you all. Just like you I am trying to keep a good routine so I get up make a coffee and have breakfast, and watch a little of breakfast time news before I start to work from home. This morning I watched an interview with Rugby World Cup-winning South Africa captain Siya Kolisi.
During his interview he said even in these difficult times children still need to wake up and dream. How true enjoy being with your family and keep dreaming about all the things you what to do and achieve in your live and hopefully in the not so distance future we will be able to fulfil our dreams and aspirations.
It is very important that Nursery children still practice their mark making. Early mark making will ensure children can develop their large motor skills in preparation to begin writing on a smaller scale. However, writing and using writing materials does not mean they need to be sat still using a pencil on paper. Nursery children learn through play and exploration so below are many creative ways to use mark making material outside.
Your child's learning journey is a big part of nursery life. It allows us to assess and share with parents and carers what they know, and what their next steps of learning are. We usually do this through observing your child through play and active learning. We then upload these on to an assessment tool called 2BuildaProfile. It is really important to carry on with knowing what your child is learning and what new skills they are learning at home with you. Part of the 2buildaprofile has a family module which will allow you to up load photographs and write a comment about what your child is doing. This can then be seen by nursery staff and we can add it to their own personal learning journey and help with your child's next steps of learning.
You will receive an invitation to access this and it will allow you to download thier app to your devices.
KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR YOUR INVITATION
I look forward to seeing your photographs and comments and your contribution at this difficult time will ensure your child's learning journey is kept up to date ready for us to carry on their learning journey when we return.
Below is the information that you will need
Wednesday 8th April 2020
All nursery staff are:
At this special time of year it is important to remember not only the lovely chocolate eggs we enjoy eating but as Christians we need to remember what it means to us. The following power point will help you explain and talk to your child about the importance of Easter.
Nursery Daily Challenge – Wednesday 8th April 2020
Easter Sound Hunt
Using boxes, baskets or buckets stick a letter on each one and hide the pictures around the house or garden and find as many as you can.
Each time you find a picture encourage your child to say the initial sound and then the word. E.G sssssun, mmmmouse. Can they find the correct box to put it in.
You don’t have to use these pictures you could use things around the home, the children will enjoy using their own toys. E.G a sponge, a toy snake or a car.
You can also write the letter sounds on any paper you have at home.
Thursday 9th April 2020
Good morning everyone. I am really enjoying seeing nursery children and their families tweeting all the lovely things they are doing at home.
Friday 10th April 2020
Good morning everyone. I hope that you all have a very good weekend.
Here are some other lovely activities to do over the weekend they are very easy and use things around the home. If you like these activities go to facebook and look for The Curiosity approach. They have lots of practical ideas to create awe and wonder for our children.
Home Learning Week 4
Monday 13th April 2020
Good morning I hope you are all well and safe. I am sure you are enjoying your Easter eggs.
Today's challenge is to bake some biscuits and see how tall you can make a biscuit tower before you eat them all.
You might like to go on a loose part scavenger hunt around the house and garden. Collect small things such as shells, pebbles, buttons, beads, corks, nuts (as in nuts and bolts) and small jewels.
When children interact with loose parts, they enter a world of “what if” that promotes the type of thinking that leads to problem solving and theoretical reasoning. Loose parts enhance children's ability to think imaginatively and see solutions, and they bring a sense of adventure and excitement to children's play.
Once you have collect your loose parts you can design your own loose part pictures or design you own Easter egg. Have fun cannot wait to see what you come up with.
Daily Challenge - Thursday 26th March 2020

Week 1 - Home Learning
Good Morning everyone I hope you are all well and keeping safe. I know at this time of uncertainty it is difficult to ensure that we are all keeping in touch and keeping our wonderful children engaged, happy and motivated. So I hope that giving you simple routines to follow, websites to visits, daily challenges that you can post on twitter for us all to enjoy will keep us connected.
What shall we do today?
A simple routine you can adapt
- Breakfast - Let the children help by giving them a couple of choices of breakfast, because they have to choose this will develop their independence, speech and vocabulary
- Exercise time - Inside or outside. Put on some music create your own dances (this could be posted on twitter for us all to enjoy and take part in) or go to you tube and do dough disco with Shonette
- Free play - allowing your children time to play and do what they choose what toys they want to play with.
- Read - Let your child choose their favourite story and while you have snack talk about the characters, what they liked about the story and how did they feel when things happened in the story.
- Play what's in my bag - this can be were your child teaches you the song they love this game. Put items such as farm animals in a bag. Start your child off it goes like this ( I am sure the children will be better at sing than me) Ask your children questions about the animals, what is it? What sound does it make? Can they describe it
- Lunch - Can they help count out cutlery, plates and cups
- Go outside - Planting, create your own mud kitchen, make an obstacle course
- HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOURSELF!!!!!!!
Today let's visit Chester Zoo to see the antics of all the animals
Why not create a zoo collage or paint a picture of your favourite animals

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think
Good morning everyone I hope you had a brilliant weekend.
When we at nursery we love to make voice and body sounds. Play the sound games with a grown up. Before you click on the pictures can you make the sound before you listen to it. after you have done this maybe you could record your own voice and body sounds and share them with us. Have fun!!!
Tuesday 28th April 2020
Good morning everyone I hope you are all keeping happy and motivated. I can see from the tweets some of you are really busy doing lots of exciting things. I will be putting some pictures on our class page on Friday to share some lovely things our children have been doing. Keep an eye out and in the meantime send me or tweet your pictures so I can share them with your friends.
Let's wake up and shake our sillies out!
It is very important that our nursery children practice counting everyday if you can.
The most important thing you can help your child do do is count objects reliably 1 - 5 and 5 - 10. To help your child count objects (anything in and around the house can be counted) they need to touch each object with their finger, move it or transfer it to a box or container.
Today's daily challenge will help them this their counting
Number blocks is also a good programme to help your children learn about numbers
Why not start your morning with a five minute work out with Joe Wicks
Work out number 4
Remember all the nursery staff would love to see photographs of all the amazing things you are doing so;
tweet , upload to 2Simple or email them to us
Let' get the morning started with a five minute work out
If you want to do more games go to https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/Phase1Menu.htm
Wednesday 29th April 2020
Good morning everyone. When I saw the weather today I thought it would be a really good idea to do a science experiment. If we were at Nursery we would be talking and singing about the weather. Here is a weather song to get you started.
Thursday 30th April 2020
Good morning everyone I hope you had a fun day yesterday.
When we are at nursery we play lots of games to help develop children's vocabulary. This is extremely important as a large vocabulary helps children to express themselves, share their ideas and allows them to learn about the world around them.
Here are some ideas to help with developing and supporting your child's speech, language and communication
Friday 1st May 2020
Thank you for the lovely photographs you have uploaded to 2Simple you are doing some wonderful activities at home. It really cheers up all the nursery staff to see all the effort you are putting in. Keep them coming
As it is the weekend I have put together a few more activities for you to try.
if you had a very hungry caterpillar draw or write a list of things he might like to eat
Can you draw a picture of all of the food your caterpillar would like to eat and write a label for each item?
Remember to keep practising writing your name too!
Our theme in Nursery is Summer days in the great outdoors so go into the garden and see if you come across the very hungry caterpillar.
I wonder what happens to a caterpillar?
Can you find out about the life cycle of the caterpillar

We like to talk alot about feelings in nursery so let's start our morning with a song we like to sing about feelings.
Tuesday 5th May 2020
Good morning everyone and what a beautiful day it is, and I wish I could spend it with you. I love this time of year at Nursery. Especially when we can get out the magnifying glass and binoculars and go on a mini beast hunt. So that's exactly what we can do today and over the next few weeks in our own gardens. Let's start with a little bit of dancing
For all those children that love to find and touch that wriggly worm at the bottom of your garden
For all you grown ups who might not know as much about mini beast as our children do ,here are a couple of things that might help. Have fun learning new words, counting spots and stripes and learning about our world.
Thursday 7th May 2020

Home Learning - Summer 1 - Week 4 - Monday 11th May 2020
A very good morning to everyone. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.
If you are anything like me I really need to get motivated on a Monday morning. So I have been for a refreshing walk and know I feel awake. I know this song gets us up and moving when we are a nursery. So let's see who can jump for the longest will it be the grown ups or will it be you boys and girls.
We love Patty Shukla songs!!!
Tuesday 12th May 2020
Good morning everyone. Today I want all you lovely boys and girls to give your grown ups a huge hug and big thank you because they are becoming really good teachers. Keep up the excellent work we are proud of you all.
When we feel angry or cross it is a good idea to calm down and relax you could do this exercise to help. Flower and Candle. Pretend you have a nice smelling flower in one hand and a slow burning candle in the other.
Breathe in slowly through your nose as you smell the flower. Breathe out slowly from your mouth as you blow out the candle. Repeat a few times.
Spiders love them or hate them!!!!
Yesterday I was watching a really busy spider in my garden it was brilliant they are really very clever. So let see what we can find out about them.
What about some lunch a SPIDER SANDWICH maybe
Friday 15th May 2020

Good morning everyone. I went in to Nursery on Friday and it was very lonely without you all there. The Beat Baby's have been very lonely but they have been to see there friend Geraldine Giraffe. Geraldine has made a video all about the letter "m". After you have watched it maybe you can search for things beginning with that sound. Remember when you write it you need to start at the top of the letter and say "Maisie mountain mountain"
Thursday 21st May 2020
Good morning everyone. I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday the weather was beautiful and I hope you spent it in the garden. I am loving the Moovlee videos I hope you are. Join in with this one. Don't let the monsters get you!
To practise and recognise your name play name scramble
Prior to this activity write your child’s name in large letters on a piece of construction paper. Do this with another piece until you have enough small pieces of paper for each letter in your child’s name. Talk about how many letters they have in their name. What letter does their name begin with? do they have more than one of the same letters in their name? How many letters do they have in their name?
Remember to have a capital for the first letter all the rest are in lower case.
Try writing your name.
Counting and understanding numbers is extremely important to practise everyday. Using a tens frame is a fun and exciting way to learn about numbers, not the surface level, children can rote count and memorise numbers to 10 but actual, real, deep, and meaningful learning about numbers. Using concrete (real) objects they to rapidly recall groups of objects, like they do with spots on a dice. So that's our challenge today, to make a tens frame and use real objects to really learn about numbers.
Nature cutting will help your child to develop their skills with scissors and it also helps with their fine motor skills. And while they are cutting up things they find in the garden you can talk to them about plants and the world around them.

Reading stories everyday with your child is really important . It helps them to develop a love for reading, it teaches them new words and how stories are structured.
Read the story
. If you do not have a copy of the book you can find the story on YouTube too. Talk about the story together focus on learning new words such as egg, caterpillar, cocoon, butterfly. With this book you can also keep practising your counting. Talk about the days of the week and how the caterpillar might be feeling .
Go to twinkl and make your own puppets to retell the story

Wednesday 13th May 2020
Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and keeping safe.
Reading will spark your child's imagination and stimulate curiosity!!!
Let's start our morning off with a story, Remember reading to young children every day will help them to develop a love for books, they will learn to understanding that words are made up of smaller sounds (called phonemic awareness), and that marks on a page represent letters and words.
This delightful story will allow children to explore their feelings. Talk to your child about the different feelings in the book.
What does bad tempered mean?
What did the friendly ladybird want to do?
Why is he bad tempered?
What are aphids?
What do ladybirds like to eat?
What to you feel like when you are bad temepered/ cross/ sad/ happy?
Can you draw a ladybird with a grumpy face or a happy face
Can you make the first letter of your name with sticks, if you really want a challenge can you make all of your first name. as you dio it say slither down the snake.
Use a paint brush and water outside to draw the spots on the ladybird, will they big or small.
You can challenge your self and use squirty bottles of water to write "s" and "m"
As you write it say slither down the snake. Maisie mountain mountain
Thursday 14th May 2020
I am blow away with the things you are doing at home. You are all working together at these strange and different times. I really like George's ideas for counting and adding. And what a wonderful way to make words. I wonder how many different ideas we can collect of counting and making words. I can't wait to use your ideas in nursery.
Home Learning - Summer 1 - Week 5 - Monday 18th May 2020
We hope you have had a fantastic weekend and are ready to start the week again. This week I thought we would have story of the week. It's really lovely to keep revisiting the same story as it allows your child to become familiar with how a story is structure and they can then retell the story.
As our theme is about the great out doors and I saw some beautiful fruits in the fruit shop, I thought it would be lovely to base our activities around Oliver's Fruit Salad.
So let's begin with a fruit salad song to get us in the mood.
Wednesday 20th May 2020
Good morning everyone. I think we are going to have a beautiful day so if you can get out into the garden go and have lots of fun. Before it gets too hot lets have a warm up with Moovlee.
Geraldine Giraffe has made you another video to watch it is all about the letter "a". When you are writing it remember to start at the top and as you write it say "all around the apple and down the leaf". As it is such a beautiful day you could write it outside make it giant size, paint it with water and a paint brush or use a squirty bottle to write it.
Well done Esmai for exploring things that float and sink and I'm glad you and your mum had fun.
Emily I was blown away with your segmenting and blending of letters. I was impressed that you knew lots of words.
Geraldine Giraffe is really enjoying learning her letter sounds with you so she has done another one for you. Today it is "s" Slither down the snake.
Home Learning Summer 1 - Week 6 - Monday 25th May 2020
Good morning to you all. I just want you to know how brilliantly are doing. Keep going. Looking at all the things you are doing help me to keep motivated so keep the photographs coming. I am so pleased to see that the plants Lewis and his brother planted are growing. They look great. You are taking really good care of them.
I hope that you are working hard to help Geraldine Giraffe learn her letter sounds. She would really like to see what things you are finding that begins with the sounds we have learn't. You could make a letters and sounds book that we could use when we get back to nursery. Today our letter sound is "d" and when you write it we say "Round his bottom, up his tall neck, down to his feet"
Today Geraldine Giraffe is looking for things that begin with the sound "t". The handwriting phrase is Down the tower, across the tower
I would love to see some pictures of you writing your letters
Remember I would love to see your pictures on twitter
Wednesday 27th May 2020
Good morning everyone. It's going to be a lovely day again so let's start our day with a little bit of physical activity.
Geraldine Giraffe has sent us another letter to learn today it is "i". The handwriting phrase is Down the body, dot for the head.
Thursday 28th May 2020
Geraldine Giraffe loves this letter "n" she likes to kick her football into the net. You could play football and record how many goals you score. This will help to practice your counting as well. Handwriting phrase is Down Nobby, over his net.
Why not go out into your garden and find a bucket or bowl with mud. Then search your garden to find lots of mini beast. Have a look at what they look like, how do they move?
Or if you have got plastic mini beast you could make up your own story.
Friday 29th May 2020
