Modern Foreign Languages

Bonjour tout le monde!

St Michael’s CE Academy is at the heart of a culturally diverse community - therefore, our MFL intent reflects our curiosity and love of languages as well as an understanding of our multicultural world. We are committed to providing experiences which expand both our children’s linguistic skills as well as an image of themselves as ‘global citizens’ who belong in an inclusive, mutually respectful world.

At St Michael’s CE Academy, we specifically teach French as our Modern Foreign Language.  This is taught by a specialist teacher in KS2.  Please see below for links to Lingotot, which is the company that we use.

The intent of the French curriculum at St Michael's, is to ensure children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We encourage children’s confidence, we strive to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language. In planning we actively plan links to develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries.

French Lessons aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.

Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children’s vocabulary, understanding, knowledge and skills in languages, through regular taught lessons.
